LANAP Gum Treatment in Denver, CO

Modern dental services for treating gum disease

Periodontal disease affects three out of every four American adults, causing damage to the structures that hold the teeth in place. Not only the leading cause of teeth loss, gum disease is linked to more serious diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, so it is vital to address the infection head on with modern periodontal therapy treatment options. Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) is a revolutionary FDA-approved laser gum surgery that offers a more comfortable and effective gum disease and gum recession treatment. The dental professionals at Colorado Advanced Dentistry led by Dr. Deanna H. Snitzer are highly-skilled in performing LANAP surgery, utilizing the latest techniques and technologies to ensure the best possible results.

The Stages of Gum Disease

Gum disease is a progressive condition that occurs in three stages.

Gingivitis

During the first stage of gum disease known as gingivitis, the gums may appear red, swollen, and become tender to the touch. You may also experience bleeding from the gums while flossing.

Periodontitis

The next stage of gum disease, periodontitis, causes the gums to begin receding from the teeth, creating pockets where bacteria can enter and multiply. Your teeth may appear longer as you notice these pockets forming.

Advanced periodontitis

If left unchecked, gum disease progresses into advanced periodontitis, during which the tissues that hold the teeth in the jaw are destroyed. Your gums will continue to recede and your teeth may shift, feel loose, or fall out without gum treatment.

Catching gum disease in its earliest stages is the best way to prevent extensive damage to the gums and teeth. Regular dental services with Dr. Snitzer at Colorado Advanced Dentistry will monitor the health of your teeth and gums to spot signs of gum disease before it progresses.

What to expect during LANAP Laser Gum Treatment?

LANAP dental surgery is a gentle, minimally-invasive procedure that can be performed using advanced laser technology right in the comfort and convenience of Dr. Snitzer's office at Colorado Advanced Dentistry. Since the procedure is gentler on the gums and teeth than other gum treatment options, only a local anesthetic is needed. However, if you wish to receive an additional sedative for comfort, our dental professionals offer a variety of other options such as medications or NuCalm. Typically, one half of your mouth is treated at a time, and the procedure takes approximately two hours.

During LANAP surgery, a thin laser fiber is inserted into the space between the tooth and the gums. Pulsed laser light will remove diseased tissue and destroys harmful bacteria to clear away gum infection. Any bacterial buildup on the roots of your teeth is removed using scaling instruments as well. Finally, the laser is used to promote clotting and proper healing of the treated tissues. Many patients feel well enough to return to work or normal daily activities after LANAP treatment.
